Your StallionApp account is a pretty sad place without any horses in it. This guide will show you how to add a horse, be it a mare or a stallion, and what to do next once the profile exists.
When you first create an account with StallionApp there will be no horses in it until you add them.
Adding your first horse
From the dashboard page, click on the Add Mare or Add Stallion button. Which one you pick decides how the horse is set up: a mare gets cycle tracking and a breeding history, a stallion gets breeding services and a public stud listing. You can add as many of each as you like, and you can always add more horses later from the same place.
Filling in the Add Horse modal
This will open the Add Horse modal. In this modal you can add all the information about your horse. Make sure you upload a photo of them and add as much detail about them as you can.
You can add details such as:
- Breed and breed registry
- Age and height
- Pedigree
- Color — or, if you prefer, DNA color profiles
- A description of your horse
- The disciplines they have been ridden in
Once you have added all this information, hit the Save button and your horse's profile page will be created.
Check the profile page
Once your horse's profile page has been created you can add more photos. Be sure to check the page and confirm that the information on there is correct. This is what other users will see when they click on your horse's profile.
Next steps for mares
If the horse you added was a mare, you will want to add some breeding events for her. You can backdate her breeding events so that you can start to build a breeding history for her. On her Mare Card simply go to Add Event and select the type of event that you wish to add.
If your mare is already pregnant, you can indicate this by adding a Pregnancy Check event. Try to get as close as you can to remembering when her ovulation date was when you confirm the pregnancy details — her whole pregnancy timeline is generated from the date you enter.
Next steps for stallions
If the horse you added is a stallion, the next thing to do is set up his breeding services. This lets other users and anyone who views his profile see what is offered in terms of stud services.
You can open the Breeding Services modal from his Stallion Card menu.
Setting your breeding methods and fees
The Breeding Services modal allows you to select whether your stallion is available Fresh Cooled, Frozen, or Live Cover. You can configure prices for each of the breeding methods you offer, and also for any additional fees such as:
- Booking fees
- Collection fees
- Shipping fees
- Chute fees
- Handling fees
How it looks to mare owners
Once saved, all of this information shows up on your stallion's profile page under the Breeding Options section. Now mare owners can see very easily what your stallion offers, what the stud fee is, and whatever other fees are involved.
In the Breeding Services modal you can also:
- Select the collection days you offer
- Add blackout dates
- Set the cutoff time for semen orders
- Show your breeding season dates
- Manage your frozen semen inventory
Don't forget the newsfeed
For both mares and stallions, the newsfeed is worth using from day one.
You can post updates as your horse on StallionApp. Go to the newsfeed on your dashboard and select from the dropdown menu which horse you are posting as.
If you post as one of your horses, every account that follows that horse gets that post at the top of their newsfeed. The post also populates the newsfeed section on your horse's profile page.
Posting often to the newsfeed can help drive engagement to your horse's profile pages. This is especially important if you are standing a stallion and you want people to notice him. One of the big benefits of StallionApp over closed breeding software is that you can connect with other breeders on the app. StallionApp's built-in social element is breeder specific, so unlike other social media forums, the feed is designed to put your stallion in front of other breeders who are actively looking for stallions to breed to.
